The Nest Learning Thermostat

What’s even better than a programmable thermostat?  A thermostat that programs itself!  We are currently installing a Nest Learning Thermostat in what will be a gorgeous custom home in Crystal Park in Manitou Springs.

The features of the Nest Learning Thermostat are very impressive – as you change the temperature to accommodate your lifestyle, the Nest Learning Thermostat “learns” when you’re home, when you’re out, what time you wake up in the morning, when you go to bed at night, and at what temperature you want your home during those activities.

After one week of observing your preferences, the Nest creates a weekly schedule for you.  But it doesn’t stop there – it can differentiate between when you experience a one-off change in schedule and when your routine has changed, and adjust accordingly.

If you’re going to be home at a time you wouldn’t usually be home and don’t want to wait for the temperature to adjust once you get there, just go online on your computer or use the smart phone app to change the temperature so it’s ready for you when you walk in the door.  You can also make changes to your schedule and manage multiple thermostats from one online account.

With all these incredible features, the best one of all is the energy savings!  Did you know a one-degree temperature change can affect your energy consumption up to 5%?  That can really add up, especially if your home is being heated or cooled when you’re not there to enjoy it.  The Nest Learning Thermostat automatically adjusts to keep energy costs down when you’re away.  In fact, based on national averages, the Nest Learning Thermostat pays for itself in energy savings in less than a year and a half!

Why are we telling you about the Nest Learning Thermostat?  When you build a custom home, the options are virtually endless, from floor plans to exterior design to appliances and everything in between.  In fact, the choices can be overwhelming.  We make it our business to stay on top of home trends, such as GE Monogram appliances and the Nest Learning Thermostat, so you don’t have to.  When you build a home with Solid Rock Custom Homes, you can rest assured that we have done our homework to be able to present you with up-to-date, state-of-the-art options to make your home perfectly suited to your lifestyle.  For more innovative news from the home building industry, watch the blog!  Or “like” us on Facebook, and you can easily keep track of new postings.

This looks like a great product that could do woendrs for the environment. It’s too bad they have priced it into irrelevance. I’m not suggesting that they lose money on it, but $250 for a thermostat? They must be off their crackers. Here is a short list of things you can buy for less money: iPod Touch, Kindle fire, Xbox, Wii. While it’s true none of those products will save the environment, neither will the Nest if no one buys it.
