This week we’ll introduce you to Kim Cieplik, our Office Manager and Design Specialist.

Why did you choose construction as your career path?

I did not originally choose to be in the construction industry. In High School and College I wanted to be a teacher and pursued a degree in History and Secondary Education. I was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska and lived there until I was 21. When I turned 21 I moved to Colorado Springs and started going to school at Pikes Peak Community College, where I kept on my History degree and Secondary Education path. After one semester I decided that going through the history program was not what I wanted to do. I have always had a passion for drawing floor plans and thinking of how buildings are arranged. Pikes Peak Community College offers an Interior Design program, and after reviewing the program I decided to try it and fell in love with it. I have a natural eye for color and keep up on design trends for my own home, so it felt like a great fit! I also learned how to draw blueprints and other plans that would be useful in the design and construction industry. After two years I graduated with an Associate in Arts Degree for Interior Design, I also received a certificate in Computer Automated Drafting Skills for Interiors. This certificate was given based on my knowledge of Computer Automated Drafting in both 2D and 3D renderings. The use of Auto CAD here at Solid Rock Custom Homes allows me to draw different layout and selection ideas for clients, usually tile designs or fireplace plans.

Growing up I was around construction as my Dad is a huge “Do-It-Yourself-er” and was constantly remodeling our home. My family and I were able to help my Dad and learn some things about construction. I also was a Manager at Lowes in varying departments for a few years during college and learned a lot about different products and how things are built. I am happy to be in the construction industry. It allows me to use what I learned growing up, and in college, but I also get to help people.

What made you decide to work with Solid Rock Custom Homes?

When I was in my senior year at Pikes Peak Community College, I had the opportunity to do an internship that would count as college credits. My teacher had suggested a custom home company by the name of Solid Rock, she knew the owner and project manager and thought I would be a great help to them for the 3 month internship. It was then that I met Lain Chappell, Barbara Chappell, and Mat Muldoon and learned the process of home building, and what it means to help people build their dream home. During my internship I helped with marketing tools, paperwork and filing, learning about what projects Solid Rock does, and anything else I could. After my 3 month internship Lain and the Solid Rock team decided to add me full time as an Office Manager and Design specialist. I was so happy to be working with a great company and friendly team members as soon as I graduated from college; many of my fellow graduates were not able to find work after graduation.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I am an Ice Hockey player and play for 2 leagues in town, a competitive woman’s travel team and a Co-Ed noncompetitive league in Monument. I also own 2 dogs, Pepper and Bandit, who love to spend time outside and playing with their toys! I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

We hope you have enjoyed getting to know Kim a little bit better. Kim – along with our Solid Rock team, look forward to the opportunity to meet you in person and design an amazing custom home for you!
